The N55 took the N54's formula and consolidated it: one BorgWarner twin-scroll turbo instead of two, from 2009 through 2017 — the 335i of the F30 generation, the 435i, the M235i, the X3/X5 35i SUVs, and the original F87 M2. One well-matched turbo spools cleanly and holds better than its reputation suggests, and the tuning path is a proven one.
The N55 is also the end of an era, and its hardware tells you exactly which one: a factory air-to-air intercooler behind the bumper, charge pipes spanning from turbo to chassis — the same architecture as the N54, and the last time a BMW straight-six shipped that way. Every turbo six after it moved charge cooling into the intake manifold and onto a water circuit. On the N55 the canonical upgrades remain the classics: a bigger front-mount core and metal charge pipes.
We sell the N55 hardware shelf today — intercooler, charge pipes, ignition, mounts — and our calibration desk currently builds per-VIN tunes for the N54 and B58. N55 flash tuning is on the bench; until it ships, this page is the honest parts list for the platform, nothing more.
Our per-VIN calibration desk currently ships N54 and B58 tunes. This page is the honest hardware shelf for the N55 — when N55 calibration coverage lands, it earns its stage table here, not before.

Factory air-to-air core and plastic charge pipes both give up first on a tuned N55 — a bigger front-mount and metal pipes are the platform's canonical hardware.
High-output coils and solid mounts keep the spark honest and the driveline planted as the boost climbs.
The philosophy transfers, the hardware doesn't quite: one twin-scroll turbo instead of two changes the spool and the boost control, but the recipe is the same — supporting hardware first, then a calibration built from your own logs. Our per-VIN tuning desk currently ships N54 and B58 tunes; N55 calibration is in development.
Yes. The N55 is the last BMW turbo inline-six with a factory air-to-air front-mount intercooler and chassis-spanning charge pipes — the same cooling architecture as the N54 before it. That's why a bigger front-mount core and upgraded charge pipes are still the canonical N55 upgrades, not manifold work.
The single twin-scroll N55 ran from 2009 through 2017: F30/F31 335i, F32/F33 435i, the M235i and original F87 M2 (2016–2018), plus 35i applications of the X3, X4, X5 and X6. Our N55 intercooler, charge pipes, coils and mounts carry fitment for these chassis.
